FloReMus – CONVERSATION: Michele Pasotti/Enigma fortuna, music and humanism in Zacara da Teramo
Conversation with Michele Pasotti director of the Ensemble La Fonte Musica
The period from the affirmation of mensural polyphony at the beginning of the 14th century to the last masses of Dufay is very rich in transformations, a large laboratory in which the non-linear transition from medieval musical civilization to the Renaissance takes place. This transition has often been interpreted as a long sunset of the Gothic, the famous Autumn of the Middle Ages. From the music of the entire 14th century and from the testimonies around it, a surprising awareness of novelty and modernity emerges. If we look at Italy in particular, perhaps the main engine of innovation and transformation is humanistic thought from its beginnings to its full realization. A wind of radical renewal that affects all aspects of the late medieval world, an interest and a new look at the man who was born in the Italy of the 13th century and who during the 14th century unfolded in all its breadth and throughout Europe. Zacara is certainly one of the protagonists of this passage.
