Two themes are intertwined in the program: the melody of “l’homme armé” which, following the musical hexachord (ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la) moves from one tone to another within the monumental mass by Josquin Desprez; and “noe, noe”, the cry of the shepherds who celebrate the most famous birth of the western Christianity. The two themes intertwine through some works by different though contemporary composers, all coming from the Franco-Flemish area but all passing through the Italian peninsula.
