What is known about music in Florence at the time of its heyday, at the time of Lorenzo the Magnificent? What is known about the music that was played and listened at court or among the people of the time? Not very much. But this, by no means, means that there is no information about it. What has come down to us tells us that music was a very widespread art and that it was of capital importance in public and private life. But, in addition to being a source of fun, entertainment and sharing of emotions, music among the learned was also a science.
